Sustainable tourism doesn’t have to be an oxymoron

August 2019—Maybe you’ve heard the term, “over-tourism.” As the number of world travelers balloons, some places are overwhelmed.

Sedona is trying to address this with their recently approved Sustainable Tourism Plan. The Sustainability Alliance participated in its creation. It doesn’t solve all the problems, but it’s a big step in the right direction. Over 60 tactics have been identified with the intent of maintaining a high quality visitor experience and the economy upon which Sedona relies, but also working to protect the residents’ quality of life and the stunning environment that brings people here.
