Is there a food system that can feed 10 billion people?
Sept 2019—The World Resources Institute has been studying what we need to do to feed our still-growing population without destroying the planet. In their recent report, they detail these five strategies.
Reduce growth in demand for food by doing things such as reducing food waste and eating less meat.
Increase food production without using more land through farming practices that will increase crop yields and improve productivity of pastures and livestock.
Protect and restore natural ecosystems by keeping land from being converted to agricultural use.
Increase fish supply by improving aquaculture and live fisheries management.
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture through cool new technologies that reduce emissions from cow farts, manure, fertilizers and by sequestering carbon in the soil.
