How city parks are helping the climate crisis

June 2019—First, have you noticed the change in climate terminology? We used to call it global warming, but it confused people that some places like Europe might get colder and people in cold climates thought an earlier spring sounded like a great idea. So we called it climate change. Ho-hum, maybe sometime in the future. So now some groups are encouraging us to refer to it as a climate crisis.

So, back to the title….how are parks helping us to address the climate crisis? When they are along rivers or flood prone areas, they allow rivers to flood without causing property damage and risking lives. They also help cool cities in the summer. And they connect people, building community.
